My "Peacock" Bachelorette Party

May 18, 2013

I can't believe how close the wedding is getting. Not long ago it seemed like everything was taking FOREVER to get here but now time is just flying. It probably doesn't help that I have something going on just about EVERY day. Time flies when you are busy, and that's my life so... Anyway, last weekend was my bachelorette party! My sister picked a peacock theme (which is fun cuz I love peacock feathers and their colors). First, just a few of us met to get pedicures (my ugly toe is normal enough to look good when pedicured ;) and then we headed downtown. She got us a room at the Courtyard Marriott in GR so we would be near to everything we wanted and we all met there to hang out. She made pretty favors for everyone, wine glasses with fun beads/marbles and a few fun girly items for everyone. We took photos and opened presents, where I got lots of fun stuff, including LOTS of things that Mike will like even more than me!

Then we headed out to HopCat for dinner. Of COURSE HopCat was an hour's wait (and they don't take reservations so hrmph!) so we went to Tavern on the Square down the block. Still pretty yummy there too. We had some drinks and food and lots of laughs. THEN it was time to find a bar. I was kind of discouraged when we went to Mojo's because of course it was packed and I really wanted to dance but the piano bar part just doesn't have the space. So instead, we headed to the BOB. Kind of cliche as we always go there but we went up to EVE instead and that made me feel better about it. We had to wait because there was a wedding in there until 11, but after we made it up there (with only one minor insident with a creepy guy I've named Chester, who tried to get busy with three or four of us at Crush) we had fun. We were early enough that we managed to get a section of couches without having to reserve them and we had lots of fun. They made me take a few shots and then we just danced. It was such fun!

After we were done with that it was back to the hotel and although I got irritated with some not-present people at that point, the night was fun, successful and kudos to Kara for planning a fun party for me!!! Yay!!

Flowers, Flowers, Everywhere!

May 21, 2013

One of the higher budgeted items for my wedding was the flowers. I love them when I am photographing a wedding so I definitely wanted some pretty ones for my own. Almost four years ago, I worked with Tracy Park for the first time, and I've followed her work ever since. She's very creative and does great work, so I was very excited to finally get to work with her on my wedding. She helped me sort through all my crazy ideas and helped me figure out what was feasible throughout everything I wanted, or thought I wanted. Here's what we came up with!

First of all, there's this! The photo to the right is an absolutely gorgeous blue and white bouquet that I just fell in love with when I saw the photo. I told Tracy that something like this would be absolutely perfect! I believe she is even going to include the succulents and the thistles (blue spiny ones) with the light blue hydrangeas. I told her to pop in some white roses too, because I HAVE to have roses!

To the left is a sort of good representation of what I'd like for the bridesmaids. They will have white roses too but I told Tracy to pop in some hot pink (not orange as seen here) to give them a little more color. They will already be very bright with their bright blue bridesmaid dresses, but the pink (the only place you'll find something other than blue/white/gray/silver in the wedding) will add some fun to everything I think. I think she's going to pop some thistles in there too!

The boutonnieres for the guys are going to consist of white roses (big one for Mike and spray roses for the others) with some thistle in blue for color. The mom's and grandma's and other ladies will get something similar but in a wrist corsage. I can't wait to see what Tracy cooks up here, because this was something I didn't think too much about ahead of time, oops!

Now, on to the centerpieces! I've not always been a fan of carnations but in order to get LOTS big pomander balls in a cost effective way, we had to go with them. However, they do look pretty cool all stuck together. They will be on similar candlesticks as you can see here, however they are white. The balls will be light blue, a slightly darker blue, or white.

I was pretty sad I could get ALL of my centerpieces to
look like the photo on the right, but we compromised by getting two big ones like these two photos to the right (even those sweet candelabras in white too!) for the alter and for the front tables. They will be very similar to my bridal bouquet but bigger and even cooler cuz they are sitting on the big white candelabras! And there's some sparkley in there too somewhere, I just know it. Tracy is very creative and even though I told her what I want, I'm pretty sure she'll still impress me with her awesome skills!!!

Since flowers are such a big part, they are going to be one of the few excess decorations you will see at the wedding. I am a little worried that the tables are going to be a little too plain with just one centerpiece like our pomanders, but I think the room itself at City Flats will more than make up for it. It's on such a grand scale that I think everything will just work perfect together. We will have the table numbers on the tables as well, and the favors (cake pops, if you have been paying attention) should also add a little something extra to the silver chargers and such. Yup yup, I'm pretty excited to see it all.

I'm sure this was a lot to read and look at, but hey, it's going to be awesome, just you wait and see!
