Dear Baby Girl: Part Ten

August 28, 2014

Oh. My. Gosh. I've heard about pregnancy brain, but this is ridiculous. Unless I stop and think about EVERY LITTLE THING, I screw something up, it seems like. Yesterday, I realized when I cleaned out my car, halfway through, I had switched the save vs throw out bag and threw out all my CDs and quit a few things I meant to keep. And trash day was yesterday morning, about 12 hours before I realized what I had done. Baby, you've got me all smushy in the head! On Monday, I couldn't type to save my life. My focus is down the toilet (although I'm not sure THAT'S all your fault ;) and phew, I get frustrated pretty quickly, with myself and with the world.

Oh well, I can still feel you moving every so often in there. It's pretty fun there at least. It's not super consistent yet, and it's hard to catch it on the outside but I'm guessing it won't be too long before you start going crazy more often. Despite my pregnancy brain issues, and throwing out stuff that makes me upset to lose, everything is going to be okay.

And we registered for all your new stuff. Bring on the baby showers!!!

Love,
Your Fuzzy Mom

Mom's New "Toy"

August 26, 2014

This week has been crazy already. We started our car search about a week ago, and though I already pretty much knew what I wanted, I didn't think we'd get it quite so quick. I was looking at the Ford Escape, even though I've always been a Dodge girl. And though I really didn't want to get rid of my Cali (2007 Dodge Caliber), the possibility of Mike having to travel more and having another winter like last year, where a few times I couldn't even get up our driveway meant that there wasn't much choice. The Cali was a little small in the backseat and truck area too, which wouldn't be good for travelling with baby. So it was time to upgrade.

We went to two dealerships and drove five different Escapes and we finally decided on a nice red one (that makes the transition a little easier for me since I was so attached to Cali). They gave us $900 more for the trade-in (also made me feel better!) plus 0% interest (HOORAY!) so we got all sorts of awesome options on top of the four-wheel drive. It's a pretty nice car! Baby Hoek is spoiled already ;)

I can't wait to drive it again today, it's pretty exciting to have a new car again, even if I really will miss my trusty Caliber. It was hard to drive away without it. But the world keeps turning and thus I needed something new for our family. And now I have to figure out a name for the CAR as well! :)

You're Moving!

August 21, 2014

Yesterday, after looking at new Ford Escapes for the family (we'll see if we get it or not... there's a good chance of it!), we went over to Kara's for a bit to see her new apartment. She moved downtown just yesterday and when she and Mike were just coming back in from putting some stuff in the car, I felt the baby move. Not that I haven't been. She's been kicking and flopping around in there (at least that's what I think it's got to be) but this time I put my hand on my belly right about where I had just felt some moving and I felt her kick my hand. Or something, not sure what it was, but it was outside movement! Mike came over and tried to feel it too, but that was the end of it for now. The ultrasound tech said that the placenta probably wouldn't let us feel baby move for a bit yet, but I think that had to have been it. Kind of awesome. That's all. Oh, and a belly photo, too :)

Coming right along! Baby is about a pound now, and I'm definitely much bigger at 22 weeks! Still about 18 to go, but that's less than four months!

Best Buddies

August 11, 2014

Last week, I took Angie and Josh's maternity photos for their little baby Moe. She's 10 weeks ahead of my little one, and now that we know they are both girls, we are super excited because, being so close together in age, they are most definitely going to be friends. It's great to have a few friends going through this baby business right at the same time as me, but it's going to be even better getting to watch our kids grow up together. My little one already has a friend or two in the world (Olivia, who will be around 6 months old when she's born, and Logan (5), Mason and Sophia (2) as well) but Baby Moe will be even closer in age, and since we don't live far away from each other, I bet these two will get to play together a lot!

I can't wait for babies!

^Here we are at 20 weeks and 30 weeks!

Dear Baby Girl: Part Nine

August 5, 2014

Dear Baby Girl,

Well, we finally know what you are in there! It was very exciting to find out that we are having a girl for our first little one. I think Dad was hoping for a boy but I know that he will love you so much that he won't he think about it once you make your appearance. On the bright side, I've already got a couple best buddies lined up for you... Baby Moe is a little girl and will only be a few months older than you, and Olivia Lewis will only be about six months older, so yay for friends. And then we do have a few boys for you to play with so you don't get too prissy (Logan and Mason, specifically :)

Anyway, now we have to start the task of choosing the perfect name for you. I think we'll figure something good out. Your dad and I have different ideas but I think we're making some surprising progress already. We'll see what we come up with soon. And we also have to figure out where to register for all your stuff! Your Grandma Charyl is already planning a shower for us in October and Grandma Patti (Grammer!) has one on the horizon too, so I'm sure we'll have lots of good stuff for you. Great Grandma Wanda has already gotten you a ton of clothes at a nice garage sale and aunts Angie and Kristin are already offering to share. Goodness! So much stuff you will have, I'm sure!

I'm getting bigger and it's kind of crazy, but I know I have a long way to go. This week will hit 20 weeks, which is the theoretical halfway point, so it's only going to get worse. Your daddy got me a body pillow, which is great, but it's becoming harder and harder for me to sleep. And if you knew how much Mommy likes to get a good nights rest, you would know that it's a bit rough. It's hasn't been too bad yet, though, so I'll take what I can while I can. Pete Kitty is one of the culprits of my less-sleep-state (not to mention you making me have to pee ALL THE TIME) but I just take it as practice for your soon-to-be all nighters ;)

Love you little lady, can't wait to see you in a few more months!

Love, Mommy

It's a.... Gender Reveal Party

August 2, 2014

It was FINALLY time to find out the sex of our baby! Our ultrasound was on August 1, and I was really nervous for some reason. It took some time but everything was looking good. We had the tech, Lisa, send a quick email to Barb at Sweet Cakes to make our cake so we wouldn't know what we were having until we revealed it at our party. That worked out great!

We had just our parents (with Kara and Grandma Wanda) and just some very close friends over for the party. We had some snacks and played a little guessing game with the various old wives tales they say help you determine the gender, and then it was time to find out! Everyone thought that I couldn't wait to find out what it was and would cheat (or that we were just saying that we didn't know) but it was honestly a surprise when we cut into our yummy cake and found PINK frosting. It's a GIRL! Now we have so much to do... decorating, name choosing, yikes! So much to do!

It was so amazing to spend such fun time with our family and those couple of friends, and we are so happy to share little Baby Girl Hoek with you all soon! (20 weeks, or a little less I hope, to go!)

^Our little set up for the whole party, lots of blue and pink for whatever we were having!

^Cute elephants on the cake by Barb of It's Personal by Sweet Cakes :)

^"Guest book" and "guess list"

^I asked Pete using the pink and blue Hershey Kiss bags what he thought the baby would be. He picked pink.

^Logan hugging Pete.

^Everyone had to wear our stickers :)

^Seeing if any of the old wives tales are correct.

^Thanks to Judi for taking all the photos!

^Most of them point toward it being a girl.

^Holding the list of family and friends who guessed the gender.

^Last we made everyone sign the tree with the color they thought the baby would be. Mason signed too.

^Ica was in Florida so we called her via Facetime on the iPhone so she could watch too (with her sister Jacquie too :)

^I was so nervous... it's pink!

^They were the minority at the party, but Team Pink (Logan, Erika, Charyl and Mike) were the winners!

^The rest of us (Mason, Jason, Judi, Mom, me Dad, Grandma, Kara, Lenore, Mike and Ron) were wrong!

^LOSERS! But we don't mind!

^There she is! Look at that cute little nose :D
