UP North 2020

 July 25 to August 1, 2020

This year, we were worried we wouldn't be able to go up to the UP. This year has been nothing but a mess but surprisingly, a lot of us were able to make the trip, including Grandma! All of the adults from downstate got a COVID test before going up and we had a pretty chill week in cabins 28 and 29!

Our first adventure was off to Fayette, which we visited a few years ago. Such a cool place. It was a really nice and a bit windy day, and by going out there, we actually missed the rain that went through back at the cabins! We explored the old buildings and visited the rocky beach before grabbing some lunch outside at a restaurant on the way home.

Before Byron had to go back to Grand Rapids, we made a day of visiting the "far away" lakes on the Club. We went out to Pullup Lake to take photos of the CRAZY high water and have some sandwiches. We then stopped by Cranberry Lake Lodge. The lake there wasn't quite as high but it was one of the prettiest days out there in a long time! We saw a few creatures before the bugs found out we were around and we had to head out again. Mike took the quad and we MAY have seen a wolf track out on the trails! Grandma didn't come with us, but when we got back to the cabins, we took our group photo early since Byron was leaving.

^Very high water!

Grandma Patti brought activities for the girls to do, one of which was painting rocks and such. They had fun doing that. I took a brief break to go take photos on the lake. I love photos of Lake Millecoquins. They are pretty much all the same, but we hadn't stayed in the Birch set of cabins in awhile so at least it was a slightly new view this year.

The day Kara had to leave found us back in the woods. The girls had their fishing poles. Even though we weren't supposed to, the adults did a bit of casting in Cold Creek and Jocko Pond. I don't think anyone even got a bite but it was something to do! Grandma came with us for the ride this time. She was worried someone was going to get eaten by a bear. After Kara left, Daddy tried to do more fishing with the girls on Lake Millecoquins but again, no luck. Although Julie did fall of the dock at one point. That was an adventure...

One more ice cream trip! We actually tried out the newer place in Naubinway a couple times. Of course we did a stop or two earlier in the week at the gas station in Engadine but we kind of liked the other place, even if we had to eat the ice cream in the truck. One more ride on the south side (G Trail) in the truck and then the girls made friends with our neighbors on the dock. Another good trip, hopefully a less secluded one next year, but I'm very happy we were able to make it.

^They say it's called SuperGIRL ice cream.
