On Sunday, we had an all-day excursion planned. This time we were taking the road to Hana, which took us back all along the east side of the island, where the road is VERY windy, hanging off of cliffs and drop-offs, and sometimes unpaved. We took a bus... haha, it was a little scary but it was a very pretty trip. Mike really liked our guy, Roy, he chatted him up quite a bit when he wasn't telling us lots of facts. He was kind of full of it, I think, but it was fun to listen to him anyway :)
We stopped for lunch in the town of Hana, which is a kind of 'blink and you'll miss it' place. It was just the trip that you went on, not the destination you go to, I suppose. We made lots of stops, one of which was at a state park that we climbed down in a lava tube and went out to the coast. There was a black sand beach and a blow-hole to see. After lunch, we made a lot of progress up and down the cliffs. Pretty neat I think. We stopped at a place called the Seven Sacred Pools, which our guide made sure to let us know was a tourist gimmick. It was kind of busy and Mike didn't want to go in. But it was cool. I took photos with our disposable cameras but I don't have the developed yet. After we got going again, we ended up in the desert and saw some cool stuff out that way. We finally got to the winery on the south side of the island where we got some souvenirs and some pineapple wine.
It was getting later when we got back. I actually can't remember us doing anything particular for dinner, although I'm sure we did something, but for now we'll just say that was the end of the day ;) It was a pretty busy one all in all.
